Chris, Dick, and Sheba

                         The Boy
He discovered America in '82
And he cried and cried 'til his face turned blue
But he outgrew that bye and bye
Been a long time since I seen him cry

He's smart as a whip, and he's good in school
And he likes airplanes and toys and tools
Got his mom's imagination and his grandpa's eyes
He's fond of pizza and he loves french fries

There never was a time this boy was bad
He's growin' up tall, just like his dad
Guess it runs in the family — he's a thinker and a poet
Ain't much you can talk about but he don't already know it

We go campin' in the mountains and sometimes flyin'
And we talk abut livin' and we talk about dyin'
I teach him good manners and how to have gumption
And every once in awhile, he teaches me sump'n

If the airplane's broke, or the weather's bad
And he can't go flying with his old granddad
He'll come over and help in the yard
He ain't lazy; the boy works hard

He's younger than me by 43 years
And I love him so much that it brings on tears
Guess I'll be leavin' him bye and by
. . . But as long as he lives, so will I . . .

"Summer" Tour

We spent parts of September and October on the road this year. As well as trips to other reunions. In all we attended &/or performed for the 8th TFW at Randolph AFB; Gator Flight Daedalians at Moody AFB; friends and family in Hildreth, FL where Dick grew up; Headhunters at San Destin Resort, FL; 84th FTW at Laughlin AFB; and Hog Smoke in Salina, KS. It was a leisurely trip with time for visits with family and friends along the way.
We are looking forward to the Holidays with several programs on the books here locally. A Prescott traditional is Acker. Then there is the MOAA luncheon. On Christmas Eve we will be entertaining the long term patients at the Prescott VA Hospital.
We hope this finds you well and looking forward to 2009 as we are.

Adding Stuff

OK I managed to add a picture to Dick's profile and I am working on getting used to adding photos to posts.
The next challenge is going to be to add audio. Dick has written a couple of new songs and would like them on this blog. Te get reactions from interested people. As far as I can tell they do not have a URL so I guess I get to learn how to give them one. Any Hints????????
This is definitely a work in progress.

Grandpa

Grandpa came to visit yesterday. I was really honored he drove all the way to California to send me and my wife off on our big move back East. I don't get to see Grandpa very often, so I always try to ask as many questions and hear as many stories as I can.

I remember, just before I went off to college, I visited him for about a week, and asked him all sorts of stuff. Not even twenty years old at the time, you can easily imagine my questions were mostly about fame and money and girls. And if you know Grandpa very well at all, you won't be surprised to hear he had something clever to say at every single turn. He told me about other stuff too - politics and family and faith.

Now I'm moving even further away, and those stories are more important to me than ever. And I thought you might be interested in them too or maybe even in sharing a few of your own. I'm honored Grandpa offered to let me start his blog for him. Thanks to you Grandpa, and your friends, for Passing the Flame.

Grandson of Dick Jonas.
